The Garmin Nuvi 885T adds lane assist and “enhanced” MSN content to the already popular feature of speech recognition. Expected ship date for the Nuvi 885T is the last week of January 2009.

Also previewed is the exciting new Garmin Golf GPS called the Approach G5. The Garmin Approach G5 golf GPS is due to begin shipping in 1st quarter 2009.

Today Garmin indeed announced the birth of the Garmin Nuvi 885T gps receiver. Unlike it’s predecessor the Nuvi 880, the Nuvi 885T packs everyone’s favorite feature, speech recognition, and adds Garmin’s lane assist to make the Nuvi 885T into one powerful, portable navigator. With the push-to-talk wireless remote, drivers speak words or phrases that correspond with the buttons on the touchscreen display, and Nuvi is there to listen every step of the way. New to the Garmin Nuvi 8XX series, the 885T also offers lane assist with junction view – giving drivers a clear picture of the road ahead. With lane assist, drivers will no longer have to speculate which turn lane to be in – the Nuvi 885T will highlight the proper lane for navigation.

In addition to these ultra safe and convenient features, the Garmin Nuvi 885T also boasts MSN Direct features allowing drivers to check a flight status, view Doppler weather maps and current weather conditions, avoid traffic back-ups, check fuel prices, look up movie listings, and check local events, news and stocks.

The Garmin Nuvi 885T comes preloaded with maps of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico and is equipped with Garmin’s HotFix technology for faster satellite acquisition. Other features include a 4.3-inch touch screen; integrated Bluetooth; text-to-speech functionality; voice commands; lifetime traffic updates, and multimedia capabilities.

The Nuvi 885T will be available in the first quarter of 2009 with a suggested retail price of $799.99.

Garmin Nuvi 885T New For 2009

We have some GPS receivers on our wish list for Garmin.

The Nuvi 800 series was a huge success as speech recognition was introduced into the high end series. But then along came lifetime traffic updates and lane assist later in the year that we believe ended up being even more popular than the speech recognition. Our wish list includes maybe a Garmin Nuvi 885T and Nuvi 855T that combines all those great features together! That meshed technology would put the Nuvi 885T and Nuvi 855T back at the forefront of popularity.

Is there any automotive GPS that could challenge the Garmin Nuvi 885T and the Garmin Nuvi 855T?
