Business Wire – Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced new stat-tracking software that helps golfers get even more out of the Approach G5, the top-tier touchscreen handheld designed exclusively for the golf course. This free software update helps golfers easily keep track of fairways hit, greens hit in regulation, putts per round and how far they hit each club. This latest innovation from Garmin golf is immediately available and will be on display this week at Garmin’s booth (#1611) at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
“We’re always looking for ways to make great products even better, and this easy-to-use stat-tracking software helps users get even more out of their Approach G5,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “By adding these features to the intuitive touchscreen and vast preloaded database of more than 12,000 courses in the United States and Canada, Approach G5 sits alone atop the leaderboard.”
ApproachStatprompt In keeping with the intuitive interface of Garmin’s golf products, the new stat-tracking software is simple to use. After every tee shot, Approach simply asks if you hit the fairway, keeping you honest while helping you improve your iron play along the way. And whether you’re tracking your improvement or just want bragging rights, you also have the option of measuring how far you hit every shot. When you tell Approach which club you used, it will automatically calculate your average distance for that specific club. You can then quickly view the updated averages for each club that you’ve tracked, with the option to reset the averages for individual clubs at any time. Finally, once you enter your score for a hole, the new stat-tracking software gives you the option to tally your putts per round and the number of greens you hit in regulation. This advanced scoring simply requires answering two additional questions each hole and can easily be done for one or multiple players in the foursome. All of this information is stored in each round’s scorecard, which you can view on the Approach or on your computer back home via USB.
Preloaded with a database of more than 12,000 course maps (and growing), and powered by two AA batteries, the waterproof Garmin Approach G5 is ready for a round just minutes after being taken out of the box. There are no subscriptions or annual fees that are common in golf gps technology.
ApproachClubAvg Once powered on, two simple options appear on the glove-friendly 3″ color display: Play and Preview. While playing, golfers will see detailed course maps with precise distance information from their current location to fairways, hazards and greens. As you move about the course, the Approach G5 uses its high-sensitivity GPS receiver to continuously update your position and distances to each target. By dragging your finger on the map, you can find the precise distance needed to set up your perfect shot into the green. And by simply touching the corner of the screen, you can zoom in on the green and reposition the flag to correspond with that day’s placement of the pin.
Even when you can’t make it to the course – or want to follow along during televised coverage – you can use Approach to preview any of the more than 12,000 preloaded courses in the United States and Canada, complete with detailed vector mapping unlike anything used before on a golf course. Golfers can go to those links to check if their course is among those available for the Garmin Approach G5 or Garmin Approach G3. As Garmin builds its database of American and Canadian courses – and expands into Europe in early 2010 – additional courses will be available at www.garmin.com. Approach G5 and Approach G3 conform with the rules of the R&A and USGA.

SkyCaddie SG3.5It’s been a long wait for the SkyCaddie SG3.5, but as it turns out, it was well worth it! After almost an 11 month delay, the SkyCaddie SG3.5 golf gps has finally been released to market. Here at GPSDeals4U.com and GolfGPSDeals4U.com we received the new SkyCaddie SG3.5 in our warehouse on Tuesday Sept. 22nd, 2009. A massive amount of pre-orders were immediately filled and shipped. Right now the SkyCaddie SG3.5 is on sale on both web sites at an introductory price!

Good things come to those who wait. While some minor design adjustments were made to the SkyCaddie SG3.5 during the delay, SkyHawke Technologies, Inc. also pumped up the SG3.5 by replacing the planned greyscale screen with a full color screen similar to their flagship model the SkyCaddie SG5. With a list price of $299.95 the SkyCaddie SG3.5 enters the market at a point below most color screen models on the market today. Size wise the SkyCaddie SG3.5 golf gps is a bit larger than the SkyCaddie SG2.5 and a shade smaller than the popular SkyCaddie SG5. With that footprint the color screen is easy to see and read.

What makes the new SkyCaddie SG3.5 different than other current items in the SkyCaddie product line is the fact that it runs on AAA batteries. This makes it perfect for the busy person who is always forgetting to charge their golf gps, or for travelers who want to travel lean and just take their SkyCaddie golf gps and not worry about any chargers. The SkyCaddie SG3.5 will operate for several rounds on a single set of regular throw away batteries. Our recommendation is to buy a set of rechargable AAA batteries and charger for everyday use and keep a pack of spare regular AAA batteries in your golf bag.

In a nut shell, the SkyCaddie SG3.5 has all the same great industry leading features of the SkyCaddie SG5, but does it in a little smaller package and runs on 3 AAA batteries instead of housing its own rechargable battery pack.

We are extremely excited about the SkyCaddie SG3.5. Get yours today!
